MPTrip MP3 CD Player
Portable MP3 players are great, especially when combined with something like TextAloud MP3, which lets you create your own MP3 files to listen to when away from the computer. But what if you are heading out on a long trip, and 64mb of storage isn't enough to last the whole trip? Or what if you want to grab entire books from a site like Project Guttenberg and need a way to take all those MP3s along? Here comes the MPTrip Discman Portable CD Player to the rescue.

MPTrip lets you use your
CD Burner to create MP3 CDs and play them back in this portable CD player. Similar in looks, size, and weight to traditional portable CD players, the MPTrip will play your normal CDs. But with its MP3 playback capability, you can playback MP3 CDs containing \ over 150 songs or over 20 hours of voice content.

The process is a little more complex than downloading files to a typical MP3 player, but not too bad. Create a directory with all the MP3 files you want to burn onto the CD. Using software that comes with CD-R or CD-RW burners, create a CD with these MP3 files. Then simply pop it into the MPTrip, and you'll have hours of audio content in your hands.

The MPTrip comes with headphones, AC adapter, and a somewhat cryptic and small manual, but it is very easy to use. Using the LCD Readout, you navigate files by track number, not name, which leaves them room for improvement. Features include Bass Boost, Line Out for use with other audio equipment, and even has a voice recording feature, but only about 50 seconds. You can tell this is a first generation device, lacking a few features that would be nice, but at this price, MPTrip is a great gadget for those long drives or your daily listening.
