TextAloud Tutorial - Part 2
Setting Up the program

Tutorial Audio
TextAloud MP3 can be used in a variety of ways, including a variety of ways you might want to have it read items aloud while at the computer.  For this tutorial, we are primarily interested in setting up the program to work best for reading a number of articles to MP3 files that we will then download to the portable MP3 player.  Here are some quick instructions for getting TextAloud setup correctly for this.

Along the top of the program is the toolbar.

Setting Options

On the left of the options panel are the Multi-Article Options.  Set as shown above.  Round-robin voice selection causes the program to read each article with a different voice, cycling through the voices you like and then starting over.

Setting File Output to Multiple files is important so that you don't end up with 1 mp3 file too big to fit into the portable player.  Each article is read to its own file, allowing you to easily navigate through the files in most portable players.
Clipboard options are important for allowing you to easily enter grab text to enter into the program.

Check Watch Clipboard, and TextAloud will monitor your computer, and can automatically detect when you have selected text and done a Copy.  This saves you the step of manually having to put the text into TextAloud.

Set the ignore field up to 100 characters, so that TextAloud will ignore anything less than 100 characters copied in, since those are likely not articles for portable reading, but just small bits of text related to other things you are doing.

The Prompt options dictate how TextAloud behaves when it detects the text copied to the clipboard.  Using the settings shown above, TextAloud will detect the copy to the clipboard, and will pop up a little dialog asking you what you would like to do with the text.  If you want to paste it in to textaloud, you click the New button shown.  More on this later.
